Tradeview Markets' strategy focuses on proprietary execution technology, with founder and CEO Timothy Furey emphasising that better order routing and liquidity access matter more to serious traders than promotional incentives.
Speaking with Finance Magnates CEO Neophytos Papageorgiou at iFX EXPO Asia 2026 in Hong Kong, Furey discussed the development of EDGE, Tradeview's new execution engine, the role of artificial intelligence in liquidity management, and the company's expansion into cryptocurrency trading.
From the Trading Floor to Tradeview's EDGE
Furey's approach to trading technology dates back to his career on the Chicago Board of Trade in the late 1990s, when open-outcry trading and hand signals were still part of daily market activity.
For floor traders, finding an "edge" meant identifying opportunities where they had an advantage in entering and exiting positions.
As electronic trading replaced traditional trading floors, Furey moved into screen-based trading and later worked for a hedge fund. The search for better execution remained central to his approach.
That experience eventually influenced the development of EDGE Instant Liquidity Connector, Tradeview's proprietary execution engine, which Furey said took more than two years to build, alongside earlier technology development.
Rather than relying entirely on third-party infrastructure, Tradeview chose to develop its own execution technology to address problems Furey had encountered throughout his trading career.
"It's like a race car, right? A race car looks great on the outside, but what makes it go is the engine inside."
According to Furey, the company invested millions in developing and testing EDGE before bringing it into live operation.
How EDGE Uses AI to Improve Liquidity Routing and Trade Execution
One of the central themes of the interview was the difference between the trading platform visible to clients and the execution infrastructure operating behind it.
While traders using MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 can place orders through familiar interfaces, the quality of execution depends partly on how those orders are routed and filled.
Furey explained that EDGE uses a smart order-routing system designed to identify suitable liquidity across approximately 20 providers.
"We have about 20 liquidity providers and it looks for the best bid, best offer, right?"
The system also uses AI-assisted technology to anticipate incoming orders and determine where they are more likely to receive execution without unnecessary slippage.
Slippage occurs when an order is executed at a different price from the one requested. It can become particularly relevant when trading larger positions or during periods of heightened market volatility.
According to Furey, conventional bridge technology may route an order to the liquidity provider displaying the best available price, but that does not necessarily guarantee execution at that price.
EDGE instead aims to assess the likelihood of a successful fill when selecting where to route an order. The distinction matters because the best quoted price is not always the best executable price. Available liquidity, order size and market conditions can all affect the final execution outcome.
Tradeview says its technology is designed to improve this process through intelligent routing and liquidity aggregation.
Why Tradeview is Prioritising Execution Quality Over Trading Bonuses
Beyond technology, Furey questioned the retail brokerage industry's reliance on deposit bonuses and other promotional incentives to attract clients.
He argued that competition for traders often centres on short-term offers rather than the trading conditions clients experience after opening an account.
For Tradeview, the objective is to attract traders who place greater importance on order execution, pricing and access to liquidity.
"We want long-term clients."
Furey's argument is that traders who choose a broker primarily because of promotional incentives may leave when another provider offers a more attractive deal.
By contrast, he believes execution performance provides a stronger basis for maintaining long-term relationships.
Why Asia Remains a Competitive Market for Tradeview
Speaking from Hong Kong, Furey acknowledged that Tradeview has a smaller presence in Asia than in some of its other markets.
The company is using industry events and direct meetings to establish relationships and introduce its execution technology to potential partners.
Furey identified competition and traders' ability to distinguish between trading offers as challenges in the region.
Rather than relying solely on product demonstrations, he said Tradeview has allowed selected business contacts to test EDGE using accounts funded by him.
The initiative reflects his preference for demonstrating execution capabilities through actual trading rather than relying entirely on promotional claims.
Tradeview's Cryptocurrency Expansion Through YimmiT
The discussion also covered Furey's entry into the cryptocurrency exchange market through YimmiT.
Despite his extensive background in traditional financial markets, Furey said he had previously avoided entering the crypto sector because of concerns about hacking and operational security.
He explained that Tradeview's experience in cybersecurity had increased his confidence in approaching the market.
The company has built a cryptocurrency exchange that draws on its experience in trading infrastructure and order-routing technology.
According to Furey, the smart order-routing engine developed for EDGE has also been incorporated into the cryptocurrency exchange.
The move reflects Tradeview's broader emphasis on developing proprietary systems rather than depending exclusively on external technology providers.
What Comes Next for EDGE and Tradeview Markets?
Furey also discussed the mindset behind his approach to business, recalling advice from his former American football coach that competition rewards those who remain motivated.
He attributed much of his drive to frustration with longstanding problems in the trading industry, particularly issues affecting execution and traders' access to favourable market conditions.
Looking ahead, Furey expressed confidence that EDGE could play a significant role in Tradeview's development over the next 12 months.
