Cboe Global Markets launched extended trading hours for options on 24 stocks and five exchange-traded funds on Monday, 19 October, giving traders access before the US market opens and after its close.
London's trading industry is coming home!
The sessions on Cboe Options Exchange run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday to Friday.
The launch covers options on actively traded companies including Apple, Nvidia, Tesla and Amazon, alongside ETFs SPY, QQQ, IWM, GLD and XLF.
"Now, with the addition of extended trading hours for options on single stocks and ETFs, global investors will be able to manage positions and risk with more flexibility in many of the names that drive today's market," Rob Hocking, Global Head of Derivatives at Cboe, said commenting the launch.
The launch follows two postponements, with Cboe initially targeting 13 July before moving the start to 17 August and subsequently delaying it again.
More Time to Respond to Market News
Options on the eligible securities accounted for approximately 53% of average daily US-listed options volume in the first nine months of 2026, according to Cboe.
The exchange said the additional sessions would give investors more flexibility to manage positions around economic releases and corporate announcements outside regular trading hours.
Moomoo US and TradeStation Securities confirmed access for clients from launch, with other brokers offering or planning to offer the sessions.
Participation depends on how orders are designated. Orders marked for all sessions can carry over between trading periods, while those restricted to regular hours remain inactive during the additional windows.
Only limit orders are accepted in the new sessions; market, stop and stop-limit orders are excluded. The afternoon change principally extends single-stock options trading.
The eligible ETF options already trade until 4:15 p.m., with that period remaining part of their regular session. The new morning window adds pre-market access for both groups.
NYSE Launches Matching Sessions
NYSE also introduced extended hours for selected options on its NYSE American exchange on Monday. Its early and late sessions follow the same timetable as Cboe’s.
NYSE’s initial selection includes options on SPY, IWM and GLD, as well as large technology companies including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon and Oracle.
According to Kevin Tyrrell, chief product officer at NYSE, "extended trading hours for options reflects market demand for investment opportunities and reliable risk management during a longer period of time."
The exchange said the expansion responds to demand for a longer window to trade and manage risk. Cboe already offers near-round-the-clock weekday trading in several proprietary index options.
Its new stock and ETF options sessions have narrower hours, and the eligible list will be reviewed twice a year, with additions and removals announced in advance.
