US mortgage rates climb to 6.71%, highest since July 2025

Freddie Mac reported that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.71% as of today, marking an increase from 6.66% the previous week. The rate stands above the 6.50% recorded a year ago.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.04%, rising from 5.98% last week. This compares to 5.60% from the same period last year.

Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist, said: "The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.71% this week. Purchase demand has remained relatively stable indicating steady interest from buyers adapting to evolving market conditions."

The data comes from Freddie Mac’s (OTCQB:FMCC) Primary Mortgage Market Survey, which tracks mortgage rate trends in the United States.
