Egypt approves plan to raise $3 billion via bond sales
Egypt’s government approved a proposal on Thursday to raise approximately $3 billion through international bond sales during the 2026-27 financial year.
The bond program will include conventional bonds, innovative bonds, and credit-guaranteed Panda bonds, according to a cabinet statement. The execution of these issuances will depend on investor demand and market conditions.
The finance ministry raised $4 billion across four separate issuances in the 2025-26 financial year, the cabinet said. These included sovereign sukuk, social bonds, and African Development Bank-guaranteed Samurai bonds, as well as the reopening of existing bonds.
The government stated that this approach is part of a strategy to reduce external debt and diversify funding sources.
