Britain to nearly double funding for rough sleeping plan

Britain’s government announced Sunday it will increase funding for its program to end rough sleeping by nearly double. The initiative aims to provide homeless individuals with options to leave the streets during winter months.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham and finance minister John Healey said they will commit an additional £432 million to the plan. The funding will support accommodation and assistance programs through the scheduled end of parliament in 2029.

Burnham stated on his first day at Downing Street in July that he wanted to end rough sleeping. He is scheduled to meet with local leaders, businesses and charities Monday to discuss the plan.

Healey will announce his first budget plan on Wednesday.
